Expat stories!
Tell us a little about yourself,Â
Where do you live now, and how long have you been there?
Singapore, we’ve been here for six years.
What do you love about where you live now?
I love the tropical weather, the swimming pool lifestyle, and the jungle.
Have you lived anywhere else?
I’ve lived in Australia, Canada, France, and Mongolia.
How it all began
Where are you from originally?
I’m originally from a small town in Queensland, Australia, about 2.5 hours southwest of Brisbane.Â
What was your reason for moving abroad in the first place?
The first time was for student exchange, the second time for work, and then the third time for my husband’s studies.
2020
Has 2020 Changed you? If so, how?Â
It has; I used to have a lot of trouble slowing down, and 2020 forced that on me, so I’ve gotten a lot better at accepting a slower-paced life when I need to.
Has 2020 changed the way you work?Â
So very much. I loathed working from home for the first 3-4 months – I missed the incidental conversations in the office, and I struggled without business travel. But now, I’ve adapted my days and work options so that I can do my day job and add side projects and businesses, which have enriched me professionally and personally. A really good office chair helped!
The NowÂ
How has being an expat changed you?
It’s changed the way I approach living in many ways. When you are an expat, you have to live for the place you’re in, not where you might want to be or where you just came from.Â
What are you working on now?Â
My day job at Rio Tinto and my side project with ARVO Drinks.
