If you didn’t already know, Punch was introduced by Indian sailors in the 17th century. They initially used the recipe to prevent scurvy on their voyage. Punch comes from the Hindi word “five,” meaning five ingredients were needed for the recipe!
The five ingredients were alcohol, sugar, juice, water, and spices. Over time, the sailors shared teh recipe, and soon Punch became the staple of sailors everywhere. Punch Room at Singapore EDITION has brought the concept back to life today.

The Punch Room debuted at The London EDITION in 2013, quickly establishing itself as a stylish and sophisticated destination for cocktail enthusiasts. With its intimate ambience, opulent decor, and an impressive menu featuring an array of punch concoctions, the Punch Room set a new standard for cocktail bars.

Drink Selection
What I loved most was not only the vast selection of drinks but the story behind each drink; for example, if you choose the Tempest Punch, a myth about the adventurous spirit of Prince Sang Nila Utama, which includes him relinquishing his crown to the wild embrace of the furious sea.
Hence, the Punch includes Hendricks gin, Vertias rum, Fino Sherry, cucumber, coriander seed, and lime and jasmine silver needle tea. The ingredients of this cocktail concoction allow you to feel the ride this once brave prince sailed through.
However, my favourite was the signature punch, Kusu Island Punch. This delicious drink is based on the story of the giant turtle that transformed into Kusu Island. The ingredients include roku gin, hanatomoe “splash”, sparkling sake, pandan, yuzu, and sencha, giving it a somewhat smoky, calming feel whilst sipping it.
Who Should Visit the Punch Room
Anyone wanting a unique experience in beautiful surroundings with impeccable service. Sitting here in this cozy bar makes me realise there is more to a cocktail than just its ingredients. From start to finish, my experience at Punch Room was spot on because sitting in a beautiful bar surrounded by great service and amazing cocktails ensured I walked out, knowing I would be back soon.
