It is International Womens Day #BreakTheBias

BreakTheBias

While  International Women’s Dayis celebrated worldwide, it is time to reflect on this year’s theme, #BreakTheBias. Being part of the move means thinking about the following –

  • Imagine a gender-equal world.
  • A world is free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
  • A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
  • A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
  • Together we can forge women’s equality.
  • Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

I have for many years believed that women can and should break glass ceilings. Although there are some obstacles still in the way, you can see with each generation, women become more confident in their abilities, more driven in their careers and more outspoken with their beliefs, and I, for one, am happy to see it unfolding.

Sure, it will take a long time before we are seen as equals in many professions, but more and more women show the world that they are strong, capable people rather than judging them on their gender ability. I know we still have inequality in so many areas, but it is great to see a movement where women are finally being appreciated.

So there are more people than ever out there lending a helping hand to women in need, whether it is women helping women or campaigns such as Trip.com’s with their ongoing Pay it Forward CSR campaign for International Women’s Day; they have partnered with Singapore-based hospitality group Global Premium Hotels Limited (GPHL) and Daughters of Tomorrow (DOT) to support underprivileged women who need safe, clean and comfortable temporary accommodation when they need it most.

It is incredible what we can do when we all collaborate and start to appreciate the women in our society and the massive contribution they make to our community. This year’s International Women’s Day is all about breaking the bias in our communities, workplaces, schools, colleges, and universities. We can do more together than we can ever do individually, so it is time to appreciate your sister, friend, mother, and aunty and ban together to appreciate everyone else out there.

It is time to celebrate our athletes, artists, scientists, doctors and women in leadership roles; it is time to encourage equality in Pay, sponsorship, and visibility. There are so many reasons to be on board with this; there are so many reasons that this year’s theme ignites a fire in my stomach.

I am proud I have raised a strong independent woman who believes in building women up instead of knocking them down. Who believes in the ability to play a sport that has been deemed a man’s sport for so many generations but has finally become a sport many people love to watch?

I am proud that I have raised two young men who appreciate women’s abilities and respect the women in their lives. I am thankful to have a husband who is as supportive as I am of our daughter and her aspirations in life. But it is now time to encourage everyone to feel the same way and lead them to this year’s themed movement.

So it is time to Strike the IWD 2022 pose and share the #BreakTheBias message across all your social media platforms using the #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to get others to commit by helping forge an inclusive world.
